The third gender community in Chhattisgarh on Monday raised the demand for registration as voters on the basis of the TG (Transgender) card or certificate.
The matter was raised at a dialogue-cum-workshop organized here for Divyang (differently abled) and third gender groups' participation in the election process, said an official communication.
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Chhattisgarh, and the Social Welfare Department jointly organized the event with participation of NGOs.
Chief Electoral Officer Reena Babasaheb Kangale said all sections of society should cooperate to ensure cent percent participation of Divyangs and third gender in the upcoming elections in the state.
She spoke in detail about the facilities being extended by the Election Commission for the differently-abled and third gender.
Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Vinay Agarwal threw light on the facilities available to the differently abled at the polling booth.
He said now the facility of postal ballots has also been made available to senior voters above 80 years and voters with more than 40 percent disability.
He informed that the third gender community members and orphans can now mention ‘Guru’ as their relative while filling Form-6 for voter registration.
