Mahakumbh Mela ground to be illuminated with over 67,000 street lights

With a vision to make Mahakumbh 2025 a successful event in terms of safety and convenience of the devotees, the Yogi Adityanath government has earmarked a budget of about Rs 2.5 thousand crore, and is going to spend approximately Rs 400 crore on electricity system alone, which is double as compared to the budget of 2018-19.

It is worth noting that the government had spent Rs 192 crore for the Kumbh Mela held in 2018-19, whereas this time the amount is close to Rs 400 crore. More than 67,000 street lights will be installed to illuminate the entire Mahakumbh Mela area with milky light. These will include approximately 2,000 solar hybrid street lights, which will be installed at major ghats and junctions of roads in the fair area.

Additionally, the Yogi government will also arrange 109 DG sets to ensure 24-hour uninterrupted power supply in the entire mela area. Moreover, 15 Ring Main Units (RMUs) of 11 kV will also be installed, so that in case of sudden power supply interruption, power can be obtained immediately by auto changing from another source. These RMUs will be installed after every six sub-stations.

The Yogi government has already started preparations for adequate manpower and modern equipment to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity in the fair area. Four modern vans will be installed for repairing street lights in the mela area. After the conclusion of the Mahakumbh Mela, these vans will be used in the upcoming Magh Mela and for the streetlights in Prayagraj city.

Furthermore, four mobile high-mast generators will also be installed. They will be used to provide illumination at various worksites within the fair area before the electrification of the Mahakumbh Mela area. After the conclusion of the Mahakumbh Mela, these mobile high-mast generators will be used for the upcoming Magh Mela and Prayagraj city.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will also be used for monitoring streetlights and power distribution during the Mahakumbh. Approximately 1.5 lakh ICT-based monitoring systems will be used to monitor power supply through QR coding and geo-tagging. This will help in quickly detecting faults and current leakages, enabling their prompt resolution. The entire area’s power supply infrastructure will be properly mapped using AutoCAD for monitoring power distribution in the mela area.
