A jilted lover shot himself dead after allegedly opening fire at a 16-year-old girl near Manvi Bhanpur area in Bachharayun police circle of Amroha.

The girl is said to be in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment at a private nursing home in Meerut.

According to the police, the youth was angry with the minor girl for speaking to some other man on the mobile. The incident occurred when the Class 10 student was on her way home to Salarpur in an e-rickshaw on Monday.

According to police, the girl was attacked by the accused, identified as Pavan Kumar, 18, when the e-rickshaw stopped near the railway crossing. Kumar first fired at the girl -- she received the gunshot on her face – and then shot himself dead, the police said.

Superintendent of Police Aditya Langhe, said, “The girl suffered bullet injuries on her face. She was rushed to a government hospital in Gajraula where doctors, after providing her initial medical aid, referred her to a health facility in Meerut. Her condition is said to be critical.”

The body of Pavan was also sent for autopsy and further investigations are on.

Meanwhile, in a case of honour killing, a 20-year-old youth was hacked to death on Sunday night in Durgapur village under Girvan police station of Banda district.

Villagers claimed that the youth was having a love affair with a girl from the village due to which the family members of the girl were annoyed. The victim's family has accused the girl’s family for the murder.

The body was sent for post-mortem and a heavy police force was deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

Reports said that one Arjun of Durgapur village under Girwa police station was killed by someone by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon while he was sleeping on Sunday night.

When the relatives came to know about the boy's murder on Monday morning, they informed the police about the incident. Top police officers reached the spot and started the investigation. Samples were also taken by the forensic team.

The family members claimed that Arjun was having an affair with a local girl and as her family was opposed to the affair they probably killed him. They said that the girl’s family had also given life threats to Arjun and had asked him to forget her or be ready to face the music.

Banda's Additional Superintendent of Police Lakshminarain Mishra said that the case was under investigation and the police grilled the girl’s family to extract the truth.
