Thick fog reduces visibility Punjab and Haryana


Chandigarh: A thick blanket of fog enveloped most parts of Punjab and Haryana on Friday morning, reducing visibility, meteorological department officials said.  Fog also impacted visibility in Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states. Minimum temperatures hovered close to normal limits at most places in Punjab and Haryana.  In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 9.9 degrees Celsius, Ludhiana 9 degrees Celsius and Patiala 9.5 degrees Celsius. Pathankot recorded a low of 8.8 degrees Celsius and Faridkot 8.6 degrees Celsius. In Haryana, the mercury settled at a low of 9.8 degrees Celsius in Ambala and at 8.2 degrees Celsius in Hisar. Karnal recorded a minimum temperature of 9.4 degrees Celsius, Rohtak 9.6 degrees Celsius and Sirsa 9.8 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius.

Hry Govt to adopt the concept of e-Bank Guarantee

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, following the launch of the Haryana Engineering Works Portal--https://works.haryana.gov.in -- to enhance facilities for contractors and realize the vision of a paperless, faceless, and transparent system, has taken another step in the direction of e-governance. The state government will soon accept bank guarantees provided by contractors for engineering works in the form of e-Bank Guarantees. This move is expected to provide convenience to contractors interested in working on engineering projects in the three primary engineering departments of the government i.e Public Works Department, Irrigation and Water Resources Department, and Public Health Engineering Departments, saving both time and effort under ease of doing business, said the government official spokesperson.

Hry Govt nod to 9 projects under Rural Augmentation Programme worth Rs 38 crore

Chandigarh: Haryana Government has decided to implement 9 new projects worth more than Rs. 38.03 crore under Rural Augmentation Water Supply Programme in 3 districts namely Sirsa, Kaithal and Hisar. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday accorded administrative approval for these projects to be implemented by the Public Health Engineering Department. 

Punjab Tourism, Cultural Affairs and Archives Dept organized langar

Chandigarh: In memory of the courageous sacrifice of Char Sahibzade and Mata Gujjar Kaur ji, Punjab’s Tourism, Cultural Affairs and Archives Department on Friday organized tea and pakora langar at Chandigarh’s Sector 38 Archives Bhawan. The langar was started after performing ardas with the Department’s Principal Secretary Rakhi Gupta Bhandari, Director Neeru Katyal, Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman, and Additional Director Rakesh Kumar Popli, along with other staff members taking part.

Trials of Punjab teams of for Khelo India Youth Games on Jan 2

Chandigarh: Trials for the selection of Basketball, Hockey, Kho Kho and Football teams of Punjab for the sixth Khelo India Youth Games (which will be held from January 19 to 31, 2024, in Tamil Nadu) will be held on January 2 at 11 am. Trials for the selection of Hockey (Boys and Girls) will be held at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar; while Basketball (Boys and Girls) trials will be held at Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana; Kho Kho (Girls) and Football (Boys) trials will be held at Polo Ground, Patiala. Players, wishing to participate in the trials, should have a date of birth on or after January 1, 2005.
