Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will inaugurate the World Environment Day celebrations focussed on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call ‘Mission LiFE’ to bring public awareness towards environmental protection and conservation at the global level at Rabindra Bhawan on June 5. It was started on the proposal of Prime Minister Modi in the United Nations for ‘Mission LiFE- Lifestyle For Environment’. It is being seen as a global mass movement led by India.
Environment Minister Hardeep Singh Dang said that the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has set the target of organizing one lakh events across the country based on 7 themes of Mission LiFE which includes “reducing single use plastic, energy conservation, saving water, adopting sustainable food system, reducing waste, adopting healthy lifestyle, and reducing e-waste”. Dang said that it is a matter of pride that this campaign was launched in a big way by all the departments of Madhya Pradesh and in Madhya Pradesh alone, more then One Lakh programmes have been organized in the Mission LiFE.
With the aim of increasing the income from cow dung and cow-urine etc. a ‘Waste-to-Wealth’ Hackathon was organized by the M.P. Pollution Control Board on the theme ‘Atmanirbhar Gaushala’. Apart from the state, 54 suggestions have been presented by participants from Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Delhi and Gujarat. Prizes will be given in the programme on the two best suggestions.
In accordance with the resolution taken by Chief Minister Chouhan in the Yuva Mahapanchayat, 2100 youths will be trained as life volunteers in the first phase in the state, and given certificates by the Environment Department. A lot of enthusiasm is being seen among the youth for LiFE Volunteer. In the first phase itself, more than 4 thousand youths have applied for training. This training will prove to be very important in future for protection of the global environment. The Chief Minister will also inaugurate the training programme on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The Climate Smart City Assessment Framework has been launched by the Union Ministry of Urban Development and Housing under the Smart City Mission. In this, important climate action plans have been prepared by the Environment Department with the technical support of EPCO and WRI for 7 smart cities of Madhya Pradesh – Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Satna and Sagar, which will help these cities to get better ranking in the country. Chief Minister Chouhan will also release this action plan and the second edition of the climate change action plan by EPCO.
