Dudhwa National Park to have helicopter service

Tuesday, 31 October 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

In a move aimed at enhancing the accessibility and appeal of Dudhwa National Park, preparations are in full swing to introduce a helicopter service for tourists during the upcoming tourist season.

“Talks with private airline companies have reached their final stages, with plans to operate this service two to three days a week between Lucknow and Dudhwa,” a senior official said here on Monday.

Dudhwa National Park, nestled in the heart of Uttar Pradesh’s natural beauty, will officially open its gates to visitors on November 15. However, due to the auspicious occasion of Bhai Dooj falling on November 15, the formal inauguration programme is now scheduled for November 16. This inauguration will mark the commencement of the helicopter service, designed to make access to the park more convenient for tourists.

Dudhwa National Park boasts of having a strategically located helipad just five kilometres away in Lakhimpur Kheri, which is often used for occasional helicopter landings. The Forest Department, in collaboration with the Tourism Department, aims to establish regular helicopter services from this helipad, ensuring seamless transportation for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.

To further bolster the allure of Dudhwa National Park and encourage eco-tourism, the authorities have significantly reduced fees for various facilities within the park. This reduction in charges is intended to attract a greater number of tourists, fostering not only tourism but also generating employment opportunities at the local level. Moreover, it will offer the public an opportunity to get up close and personal with the pristine natural surroundings and diverse wildlife.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Anjani Kumar Acharya personally oversaw the preparations for the upcoming tourism season in Dudhwa National Park during sessions held on Sunday and Monday. His involvement reflects the commitment of the Forest Department to ensuring a memorable and enriching experience for visitors exploring the park’s stunning landscapes and vibrant wildlife.

As the new helicopter service takes off and reduced fees make Dudhwa National Park more accessible, nature enthusiasts and tourists can look forward to an unforgettable journey into the heart of India’s natural treasures. The upcoming tourist season promises a heightened connection to nature and the diverse wildlife that calls Dudhwa National Park home.
