Punjab Police on Tuesday said it has dismantled two prominent criminal networks. The operations were conducted by Amritsar Commissionerate Police, resulting in the arrest of individuals involved in both drug and arms smuggling.
Amritsar Commissionerate Police on Tuesday informed that it successfully uncovered an inter-state arms smuggling racket with the apprehension of a key operative, Amritpal Singh alias Kallu (28), hailing from Bhullar village in Tarn Taran. The arrestee, with a criminal record related to the NDPS Act and other offenses, was nabbed in the area of Bhaini village in Amritsar.
The police team, acting on credible intelligence about illegal weapons being transported from Madhya Pradesh to supply criminal elements in Punjab, executed a swift operation. The arrest led to the recovery of a substantial arsenal, including 13 .32 bore pistols, 26 magazines, two live rounds, and the impounding of the suspect's Hyundai I-20 car.
Amritsar Commissioner of Police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar on Tuesday disclosed that the arrested individual admitted to procuring pistols from Madhya Pradesh for Rs 35,000 each and selling them for Rs 50,000 in Punjab. A comprehensive investigation is underway to dismantle the entire network, identify the procurement and supply chain, and bring all involved parties to justice.
A case under FIR, dated December 10, 2023, has been registered under the Arms Act at Police Station Chheharta, Amritsar.
