Direct flights from June 3

Thursday, 04 May 2023 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The IndiGo airline will operate direct flights from Bhubaneswar to Singapore and Bangkok from June 3.

To make the fare affordable, there is an introductory offer of Rs 15,000 per round trip.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday (May 3) launched booking of tickets for the flights.

The direct flight service will be available twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The Odisha Government has agreed to bear the costs of unsold tickets with total ticket costs estimated to be around Rs 120 crore per year.

The international terminal building at the Bhubaneswar airport is currently undergoing renovation with all necessary infrastructures in place. While the old conveyor belt will initially be used for luggage, a new one will replace it in due course. Immigration and customs facilities are already in place.

The direct flights are expected to greatly benefit Odisha’s tourism and create business opportunities, particularly in Southeast Asian countries.
