Cyber police nab fraudster involved in UID Scam, 10 mobiles recovered

In a significant breakthrough, the Jamshedpur Cyber Police have successfully apprehended a key member of a gang engaged in fraudulent activities under the guise of updating UID. The arrested individual, identified as Sumit Kumar Mandal from Bihar, was taken into custody, marking a significant milestone in the fight against cybercrime.

Confirming the success, Cyber DSP Jayshree Kujur disclosed that the operation, codenamed "Raftaar," targeted Sumit Kumar Mandal, a resident of the Left district in Bihar. The Cyber Police have uncovered the names of three more individuals involved in the fraudulent activities, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend them.

During the operation, the police seized ten mobile phones, 32 SIM cards, and Rs. 9 thousand in cash from the possession of Sumit Kumar Mandal. The recovery of these items sheds light on the extent of the fraudulent operations carried out by the gang. The confiscated evidence will play a crucial role in further investigations.

Following the arrest, the accused Sumit Kumar Mandal will be subjected to questioning in the Govindpur police station area. Subsequently, he will be presented before the court of justice to face the legal consequences of his actions. The Cyber DSP emphasized the importance of cooperation from the public in solving such cases and urged residents of the Govindpur area to come forward with any relevant information regarding Lasaj.

In recent months, Jamshedpur has experienced a concerning uptick in cybercrime cases, raising alarms among authorities and citizens alike. The increasing reliance on digital platforms for various transactions and communication has inadvertently provided opportunities for cybercriminals to exploit vulnerabilities.

Local law enforcement and cybercrime units are grappling with a surge in fraudulent activities, ranging from online scams and phishing attacks to identity theft and financial fraud.
