Chhattisgarh Police have arrested two persons for stealing gold and diamond ornaments valued at more than Rs 20 crore from a jewellery shop in New Delhi.
Bilaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh told The Pioneer on Friday that Lokesh Srivas (32) and Shiva Chandravanshi (23) have been taken into custody.
The two hail from Kabirdham district.
The police caught them while probing a series of thefts that occurred in Bilaspur city recently.
Gold and silver ornaments and a car totalling Rs 23 lakhs were seized from Chandravanshi.
Srivas escaped but was tracked down from a rented house in Bhilai city. From him, the police recovered gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 12 crore and Rs 12.5 lakhs in cash. The two confessed their involvement in thefts at 14 places in Bilaspur city too.
