The Election Commission of India on Tuesday announced that the bypoll for the Rajya Sabha seat, vacated following the death of Hardwar Dubey, will be held on September 15. Dubey of Bharatiya Janata Party passed away on June 26. His term as a Rajya Sabha member was to otherwise end in November, 2026.
The notification will be issued on August 29 and the last date for filing nomination papers is September 5. Scrutiny of papers will be done on September 6 while the last date of withdrawal of nomination paper is September 8.
Usually ruling parties win the bypolls on the basis of their strength in the assembly but if Samajwadi Party decides to field its candidate then polling will be held on September 5.
