Build Jharkhand: Experts discuss the way forward for a sustainable growth

CII Jharkhand organised a session on Build Jharkhand: Growth. Sustainability. Technology. where eminent speakers deliberated on their vision of Emerging Jharkhand that thrives towards creating more opportunities for sector-based industrial development and the opportunities and the current challenges in Jharkhand. Overall discussions on the partnership between government, industry, and society coming together, thinking together and working together to drive the development process to achieve a developed Jharkhand took place during the session.

Tapas Sahu, Immediate Past Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council & Managing Director & CEO, Highco Engineers Pvt Ltd said Jharkhand needs to play a crucial role in India being ready to become a $5 trillion economy by 2025-26 and Industry will remain the primary growth engine for this endeavor. Jharkhand has the capability and capacity to not only contribute but also drive India’s growth. With proactive government policies and favourable investment climate, Jharkhand is coming up fast in the investment space. This is evident from the fact that in recent times Jharkhand has been constantly ranked high in the DIPP ranking of Ease of Doing Business. A strategy also needs to be created for sustainability in the renewable energy footprint, mitigation and conservation strategies and resource efficiency.

Vishal Badshah Vice Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council & Vice President – Operations, Tata Motors Limited giving his address on the Auto Perspective said that currently, the automobile industry contributes 7.1% of India’s GDP and 49% of its manufacturing GDP. This means that this impacts significantly on the nation’s economy. For India, the concern to shift to eco-friendly technology in the automotive industry remains that of self-sufficiency in fuel production, use of renewable energy sources in the production of these alternative fuels, removal of supply chain bottlenecks and the need of suitable yet sustainable infrastructure to go green in mobility.

Ujjal Chakraborti, Incoming Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council & Managing Director, JCAPCPL said that Jharkhand has transformed itself by creating an infrastructure utilizing its resources and can be in a position to compete with other industrial States such as Gujarat and Maharashtra etc. Jharkhand with its remarkable natural resources, geographical advantage, rich and varied culture, wild life sanctuaries, attractive tourist destinations, also has the potential to be ‘The State’ of 21st Century India.

S K Behera, Co-Chairman, CII National Committee on Skill Development & Livelihood & Vice Chairman & Managing Director, RSB Transmissions (I) Ltd in his speech said that India is the youngest country and the Indian workforce accounts for around 28% of the world’s workforce. Employability of India’s youth has increased to 46.2% in 2022. Jharkhand has enormous potential for industrialization & creation of employment and livelihood opportunities must be at the forefront.

Chanakya Chaudhary, Past Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council & Vice President – Corporate Services, Tata Steel Ltd spoke that the steel sector is on an upswing. Post-pandemic the steel sector production cycle has gone up. All major steel companies have expansion plans for the coming future and there lies a huge opportunity in the Steel Industry. The industry is trying to be carbon neutral and everyone should work in collaboration to reduce carbon footprints.
