Bhubaneswar: Members of the Odisha unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a demonstration and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Modi before the BJP State office here on Monday to protest against the arrest of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia by the CBI. The agitators said it is a shameful attempt to hide the history’s biggest scam due to the honeymoon between Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani.
TIGIRIA’S LAST QUEEN RASAMANJARI PASSES AWAY (Pix)
Bhubaneswar: Maharani Rasamanjari Devi, the last queen of the erstwhile Tigiria estate in Cuttack district, passed away at her house due to old age-related ailments on Sunday. She was 96. The wife of last king of Gadajat regime, late Brajaraj Birabar Kshatriya Champatisingh Mohapatra, Rasamanjari had been elected from Athagarh on a Janata Dal ticket and served as an MLA from 1977 to 1980. The queen’s last rites were carried out at the royal crematorium on Monday. Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain visited her house to pay his last respects.
VETERAN JOURNO GAJENDRA CREMATED AT SWARGADWAR (Pix)
Puri: Veteran journalist Gajendra Maharana on Sunday passed away in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 65 and is survived by his wife Susila and only son Abhilash. His body was on Monday taken in a procession by journalists to the Swargadwar, where son Abhilash lit the funeral pyre.

Paradip: A reunion meet of the 1984 batch of Paradip Port Trust High School was organised here on Sunday. The old friends felt emotional and revived the memories of their school days. More than 70 old students from different parts of the State and their families came together. The event was coordinated by Prakash Mohanty, Nrusingha Satapathy, Manoj Behera, Nalini Sahoo, Mirza Baig, Bhanukar Mohapatra, Sanjib Sahu and Smriti Rekha Panda.

2 WORKERS BURNT ALIVE IN HOUSE IN S’GARH (Pix)
Sundargarh: Two workers were burnt alive in a house at Luhuradhipa in Sundargarh district on Sunday night. They were working as labourers for a contractor. The fire broke out when they were sleeping. The two workers were charred to death as they couldn’t come out of the house. Police recovered the bodies and started an investigation into the incident. The reason behind the outbreak of fire was yet to be ascertained.

Sambalpur: The East Coast Railway, Sambalpur Division organised a two-day Flower Show in the Rail Nagar premises that attracted thousands of people. Divisional Railway Manager Vineet Singh inaugurated the show. “Flowers are the greatest gift of nature. They are symbol of love, affection and celebration,” said Singh. More than 50 categories of flowers and thousands of colourful flower pots along with saplings were the attraction for the viewers.

Odia heart surgeon Sarangi shines in USA

BHUBANESWAR: Bringing pride for Odisha, Odia heart surgeon Dr Sidhartha Sarangi of OSF Healthcare, USA, has recently got the approval for conducting heart transplant programme in central/south Illinois of the USA.
Dr Sarangi, Dr Amulraj and their team of doctors are the only Government-approved heart transplant programme surgeons by Illinois department of public health.
Dr Sarangi, after completing his studies in the SCB Medical College, Cuttack with good academic performance in 2000, had his post-graduation degree in PGIMER, Chandigarh in 2010. Later he got fellowships from several institutes including Washington University School of Medicine and moved to the USA. Now, he is the consultant cardiac and heart transplant surgeon at OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center, Surgical Director of ECMO programme and Assistant Professor at department of surgery of University of Illinois. He is the son of renowned cardiovascular and open heart surgeon Dr Ramaraman Sarangi and eminent gynaecologist Dr Sarojini Sarangi of Odisha.
His professional recognition in the USA is expected to inspire the future medical students of Odisha.
