: Special Judge POCSO Court Ranjan Kumar Sutar on Monday, convicting a rape accused against a 15 years old minor girl, sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with Rs 10,000 penalty.
Besides, the court further ordered for compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victim through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
The convict, identified as Jitendra Padhiria of Anandapur of Nilgiri block, was tried under Section 6 of POCSO Act and 376(III)of IPC.
According to reports, the Nilgiri police had registered a case on November 5, 2021 against the accused on the complaint of the headmistress of the victim’s school after she learnt that the victim was pregnant during routine medical checkup of the school. The victim further after counselling had divulged the name of the accused.
“The examined 16 witnesses and 19 exhibits before pronouncing the punishment,”said Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Kumar Panda.
