According to a recent study commissioned by Škoda Auto India and conducted by NIQ BASES, an overwhelming 92% of customers in India believe that all cars should undergo crash testing and receive safety ratings. The survey, encompassing 1,000 individuals across 10 states, sheds light on the preferences of Indian car buyers, with 47.6% of them prioritizing safety above other features when making a purchase decision. Notably, the top two drivers for customers were the car's crash rating, with an importance score of 22.3%, and the number of airbags, with a score of 21.6%. Fuel efficiency secured the third spot, with an importance score of 15.0%.
The study also highlighted that 91% of respondents felt that incentivizing cars based on safety features would be highly effective. However, despite high awareness (76%) regarding the existence of two sets of 5-star safety ratings for crash tests, only about 30% of customers in India recognized the separate safety rating for child and rear occupants.
The findings demonstrate a significant demand for safer vehicles in India and emphasize the importance of safety ratings in influencing car purchase decisions.
