Sleuths of the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorists Squad launched a statewide crackdown on illegal migrants on Monday and claimed to have arrested 74 Rohingyas, — 16 females including two minors and 58 are men including three minors — from six districts.
A maximum number of 31 Rohingyas were arrested from Mathura, followed by 17 in Aligarh, 16 in Hapur, four each in Ghaziabad and Meerut and two in Saharanpur.
The ATS officials said that they were receiving information that Rohingyas were being settled in various districts of Uttar Pradesh after they crossed the border illegally.
The said information was verified by the field units of district police and ATS, and after collecting inputs, a statewide search operation was launched on Monday in which 74 Rohingyas were arrested with the help of the district police.
Legal action is being taken against the 74 arrested Rohingyas by registering FIRs under relevant sections in the police stations concerned of the above districts.
Further raids will continue to trace out remaining Rohingyas who have so far remained untraced, claimed the ATS.
Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims have fled their homes following an alleged crackdown by the Myanmarese military.
