The Sahadevkhunta police in Baleswar district have arrested three persons, including two women, and recovered gold ornaments worth of about Rs 7 lakh.
Baleswar SP Sagarika Nath said besides the gold articles, a motorcycle worth of over Rs 2 lakh and Rs 20,000 cash were seized from the accused.
Police began investigation after receiving a complaint from one Sarat Nayak of village Haripur that gold articles were missing from his house.
During investigation, the cops ascertained the complicity of the complainant’s daughter .The main accused had befriended her and instigated her to steal gold articles. After receiving the stolen articles from her, the prime accused with the help of his two associates mortgaged them with different banks and obtained loans, Nath said.
In another incident, police arrested two persons and seized cash of about Rs 2 lakh and two bikes from their possession. The arrestee duo are natives of Ganjam district and involved in at least 1l loot and snatching cases in Baliapal, Nilgiri,Basudevpur and Jaleswar in the district.
Police stumbled upon them while investigating the complaint of one Debendra Jena, resident Chhanua under the Sadar police station that Rs 10,000 was snatched from him by unknown miscreants near Sahadevkhunta police station when he was returning after withdrawing the cash from an ATM.
In another development, the Baleswar police arrested two persons in connection with the acid attack on one Banita sSingh, who succumbed to the injuries at the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. However, the main accused Chandan Kumar Rana of village Nainpatna, Santragadia under Nilgiri block was still at large.
