Five devotees were killed and four others were critically injured after the roof of a house collapsed over them near Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan on Tuesday evening.
Reports said that the accident took place in Vrindavan Kotwali area, when an old dilapidated building, owned by Vishnu Baghwala, in Dusayat Mohalla in front of Bhagwala parking suddenly collapsed. The devotees returning after darshan were buried under the debris.
On information, the police, with the help of the local people, started the rescue operations and rushed the victims to hospital. The doctors pronounced five of the victims dead upon arrival.
District Magistrate Pulkit Khare said those who died in the mishap were identified as Geeta Kashyap (50), Arvind Kumar Yadav (35), Rashmi Gupta (40), all from of Kanpur, Anju Mugai (50) of Vrindavan and Chandan Rai (30) from Deoria .
Apart from these, Khushipal (14), Anamika (30), Akanksha Mugai (25), Pankaj Marwa (49) were battling for their lives in hospital.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the accident and ordered to give Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased immediately.
