A total of 28,074 posts in various ranks are lying vacant in Odisha Police, informed Minister of State for Home Tusharkanti Behera in the State Assembly on Monday.
In a reply to a question by MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, the Minister said several sanctioned posts in various categories in Odisha Police are lying vacant.
He presented a list of sanctioned posts that are vacant under different categories in the State police.
As per the list, the highest number of 14,037 posts is lying vacant in Group-D against total number of 69,692 sanctioned posts under the category followed by 11,620 Group-C posts out of 62,199 sanctioned posts and 2,120 Group-B posts out of 6,454 sanctioned posts.
Of total 1,039 sanctioned posts, 297 posts are vacant in Group-A category.
The department has initiated a process to collect complete data on the number of police personnel being sent to various departments including Transport Deapartment on deputation, the Minister stated.
Asked about the timeline for filling the vacant posts under various groups in view of the growing number of crimes, the Minister said new posts are being created from period to period as per the requirement. The State Government is taking necessary steps to fill the posts based on new selection, promotion and transfer.
