Two youths were killed and their bodies were set on fire following a brawl at Mahuda village under the Digapahandi police station in Ganjam district on Wednesday night.
The deceased were identified as Siba Gouda and Litu Gouda. The matter came to light after their charred bodies were recovered in the village on Thursday
Getting information, police rushed to the spot and began an investigation. Later, the bodies were sent for postmortem and a hunt was launched to nab the accused.
A preliminary probe revealed that the two deceased were tractor owners and they had gone to collect some outstanding money. However, they had a brawl with a group, following which they were beaten to death. Later, their bodies were dumped near bushes and set on fire.
The miscreants also set their motorbike afire. Later, the Brahmapur SP along with a forensic team arrived at the village and launched a probe into the incident.
The SP said, “We received information that two bodies were set on fire at around 1 am last night. Soon, the IIC reached here with his team and doused the flames. Now, the relatives have identified the bodies and a forensic team is collecting evidence.”
