Two patients died of reportedly suspected dengue virus in Bhubaneswar in past two days.
While a 62-year-old woman succumbed to dengue at the Capital Hospital on Monday, the mosquito-borne viral disease had claimed a six-year-old baby’s life at the AMRI Hospital on Sunday.
However, the government was yet to confirm the deaths due to dengue.
State Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra on Monday said, “Two suspected dengue deaths were reported in two days in Bhubaneswar, one from the Capital Hospital and another from the AMRI Hospital. However, we are yet to receive any report on dengue death from the Capital Hospital. We have sent a team to the AMRI Hospital for verification. It will be clear following the audit.”
While total 553 patients have been detected with dengue positive cases across Odisha so far, with alone 336 cases, Khordha district has become the hotspot of the disease with more than 200 having been reported from Bhubaneswar.
While at present, 26 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at the Capital Hospital, every day, four to five patients get admitted to this hospital and recover from the disease. As many as 80 patients undergo dengue test every day at the hospital. However, no death due to dengue has been confirmed yet, informed Capital Hospital Director Dr Laxmidhar Sahoo.
