DMRC now allows passengers to carry 2 sealed bottles on all lines, except for Airport Express one
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has revised its guidelines, allowing passengers to carry two sealed bottles of alcohol on all metro lines, except the Airport Express Line.
The decision comes after a committee review and relaxation of the previous ban on carrying alcohol. However, consuming alcohol inside the metro remains prohibited. The announcement has sparked concerns among activists regarding women’s safety measures. One woman activist demanded the rollback of the decision, expressing apprehension that it may lead to incidents of nuisance. The police, on the other hand, assured strict vigilance and action against anyone causing disturbance. A senior officer of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for metro security, stated that the decision was made to establish uniformity in rules across the entire metro network. Having separate rules for the Airport Express Line and other routes was deemed undesirable. The official Twitter handle of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in response to a now-deleted query from a user, confirmed the allowance of two sealed bottles of alcohol in the Delhi Metro. The statement released by DMRC clarified, “Two sealed bottles of alcohol per person are allowed to be carried on the Delhi Metro, similar to the provisions on the Airport Express Line.”
Previously, alcohol was prohibited on all metro lines except the Airport Express Line. The committee comprising officials from CISF and Delhi Metro reviewed the earlier order, leading to the relaxation. However, drinking alcohol within the metro premises remains strictly prohibited. Delhi Metro has emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum and responsible behavior during travel.
