Deepu Kumar, an expectant father, working in a temporary amusement park set up by a private player in Janglat Mandi area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district, was killed in cold blood by the two motor-cycle borne terrorists minutes after he stepped out to get some milk and bottled water before breaking bread with his wife late Monday night.
He leaves behind his pregnant wife, ageing parents, an elder brother with impaired eyesight and his family of four members including two children.
The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has approved an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh for the next of kin of Deepu.
A little-known outfit, Kashmir Freedom Fighter, believed to be a shadow outfit of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the killing.
Sharing her last interaction with her husband, Sakshi, who travelled in an ambulance along with her husband's dead body, told reporters in village Thial, “after bringing food Deepak stepped out to get some milk and water. While he was returning I heard sounds of gunshots. I rushed out and saw he was lying there with his face towards the ground. Weeping inconsolably, she said, “We shifted him to the hospital but he succumbed”. Sakshi could not respond to a few more questions raised by the reporters to piece together the sequence preceding his killing near their camping site.
