India and Russia have discussed issues related to security and enhancing co-operation in this field during telephonic talks between National Security Advisor(NSA)Ajit Doval and Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.
Incidentally, the talks on Wednesday took place days after a mercenary group launched a short-lived armed rebellion that rocked Moscow and the Russian NSA reportedly briefed Doval about it.
A Russian readout said on Thursday that Patrushev held a telephonic conversation with Doval and informed him about the “latest events” in Russia.
“The current issues of Russian-Indian cooperation in the field of security and the prospects for their deepening within the framework of bilateral and multilateral formats were discussed in detail,” it said.
“In addition, Patrushev informed Doval about the latest events in Russia,” it said, adding “the interlocutors agreed to continue a confidential dialogue”.
An official statement from the Security Council of Russia said the two NSAs discussed current issues of cooperation between India and Russia in the security sector.
The two sides discussed prospects for deepening the cooperation between the two nations within the framework of bilateral and multilateral formats. The two sides agreed to continue the dialogue.
“The current issues of Russian-Indian cooperation in the field of security and the prospects for their deepening within the framework of bilateral and multilateral formats were discussed in detail, the Security Council of Russia said in an official statement.
Earlier in March, Patrushev met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed issues of bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
The rebellion by Yevgeny Prigozhin and his Wagner group on Saturday marked the most serious challenge to President Vladimir Putin in more than two decades of his rule and triggered questions over his leadership.
Wagner mercenary group had taken control of Rostov-on-Don town. The revolt ended when Prigozhin ordered his troops back.
The Kremlin said it had made a deal that the mercenary chief will move to Belarus.
