An awareness programme was organised by the Central Hospital in Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) in association with the Popular College of Nursing and Paramedical Institute and Indira Nursing College on the occasion of World Heart Day here on Friday. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. A prayer was sung by the trainees of two nursing colleges. While inaugurating the programme, Dr Devesh Kumar, Principal Chief Medical Officer of BLW, said that a large number of people lose their lives due to heart attacks all over the world, and in India people below 30 years of age are also becoming its victims now. He said that it has become very important for everyone to be aware of their hearts. According to him, this year’s theme of World Heart Day is ‘Use Heart, Know Heart’. He appealed to all to adopt a healthy lifestyle to avoid serious heart diseases and suggested all to keep the heart healthy, control blood pressure, keep getting regular checkups done and consult a doctor as necessary. “Eat a balanced nutritious diet and do adequate physical exercise and do not let one’s body become fatty, avoid smoking, get enough sleep and take the right treatment at the right time,” he advised. While addressing the programme, Anand Kumar, Assistant Professor of Popular Nursing College, also spoke on the occasion. The college students also made people aware about keeping a healthy heart by presenting a drama on exercise and proper lifestyle, and CPR. They also motivated the participants by practical demonstration. Dr SK Sharma, Geeta Kumari Choudhary, Anjana Todd, Sumit Kumar, Durgesh Nandan Srivastava, Sanjay Kumar, Kamla Srinivasan, Chandrakala Rao, Sita Singh, Usha Jaisal, Usha Devi, Ahilya Singh, Aarti and other paramedical staff of the hospital were present in the programme.
