Action has been initiated to attach two benami properties of slain mafia Atiq Ahmed. Reports have been sent to the high-level officials. Both the assets will be attached under the Gangsters Act as soon as the Police Commissioner gets permission. The police came to know about the possession of Atiq on half of the Bengal Hotel in Shahganj a few months ago.
It is learnt Atiq had ‘captured’ it on the strength of bullying and documents related to this property were collected. In Minhajpur area itself 200 square yards land of Atiq was detected. Investigation of documents revealed that this land was bought by Atiq in the name of his wife Shaista Parveen. Police teams were engaged in preparing a report to attach both. Now this report has been prepared and it has been sent to high officials. Sources revealed that it has been said in the report that both the above properties were acquired by crime and in such a situation it will be appropriate to attach it under Section 14 (1) of the Gangsters Act. Now on the basis of this report, the Police Commissioner will take a decision after observation of the court documents etc.
The police team, which is trying to find out the benami property of the mafia, has also gathered information about a house in Delhi. This house is located in Batla House in Delhi. The mafia bought a flat in Sector-36, Noida. It is priced in crores. The flat in Mahanagar Colony in Lucknow in which Atiq's son Asad lived with his companions has been identified. Police sources said that these three properties are also planned to be attached under the Gangsters Act. The police is preparing the report for this.
UMESH PAL MURDER CASE: Even after nine months of the sensational Dhoomanganj shootout case, Prayagraj Commissionerate cops are yet to arrest six key accused, including slain gangster Atiq Ahmed’s wife Shaista Parveen, despite announcing hefty cumulative cash reward of Rs 15.50 lakh. On February 24, lawyer Umesh Pal, a prime witness in 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case, along with two of his police gunners, were killed outside his residence in Sulemsarai area under the limits of Dhoomanganj police station. Although police claimed to have gunned down four of the key accused allegedly involved in the shootout including Asad, son of Atiq Ahmed, Gulam (shooter), Usman alias Vijay (shooter) and Arbaaz in separate encounters, cops are yet to ascertain the whereabouts of six more wanted persons including Sabir, Guddu Muslim, Arman, Shaista Parveen, Jainav and Ayesha Noori. While Guddu Muslim, Arman and Sabir are carrying Rs 5 lakh cash reward each on their heads, Shaista Parveen is also carrying Rs 50,000 on her head.
There is no cash reward on the heads of Jainav (wife of slain Khalid Azeem) and Ayesha Noori (sister of Ashraf). Police records claimed that two of the key accused -- Arbaaz of Kaushambi and Vijay Chaudhary alias Usman of Kaudhiyara, each carrying Rs 50,000 cash reward, were killed in separate encounters on February 27 and March 6 respectively. Moreover, a team of Special Task Force (STF) of UP police also gunned down Asad (son of Atiq Ahmed) and Gulam both carrying Rs 5 lakh cash reward on their heads, in an encounter in Jhansi in April 13.
On April 15, a group of three assailants killed gangster Atiq Ahmed and Khalid Azeem alias Ashraf inside the Colvin hospital campus under Shahganj police station.
However, despite a series of raids and target oriented operations, cops failed to gather information about current whereabouts of three key shooters, including Guddu Muslim, Sabir and Arman, since the sensational shootout. Undoubtedly, cops have not only dented the economic empire of slain gangster but also managed to tighten the noose around gang’s key operatives and sympathisers.
Recently, cops arrested a key associate of slain gangster Atiq Ahmed, named as Mohd Nafees alias Nafees Biryani, a resident of Khuldabad in an encounter near Anapur on Prayagraj – Lucknow highway and claimed to have received vital clues about gang’s modus operandi after Atiq’s elimination. A senior cop preferring anonymity said “Apart from STF, special constituted police teams are closing in on absconders and would be soon scripting success stories. Cops have some vital information to act upon. Separate police teams have been assigned separate tasks in this regard”.
