Aiming to ensure maximum punishment to the criminals, the UP Police brass are now promoting scientific investigations. Giving the information in Lucknow on Tuesday, Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Awanish Kumar Awasthi said that the investigations conducted by Forensic Science Laboratories of Lucknow, Agra, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Prayagraj, Jhansi and Gorakhpur in 2020, 2021 and till February, 2022 have been thoroughly reviewed. He said that officials have been instructed to incorporate more scientific investigations after reviewing the activities.
Awasthi said that by promoting scientific investigation, the conviction rate has also improved besides helping the cops in cracking cases on the basis of scientific evidence. According to the review, Forensic Science Laboratories across the state carried out and settled 1891 investigations in 2020 and 2562 in 2021, which was 35 percent more. “Similarly, in January, 2022, the number of investigations done by Forensic Science Laboratories was 2913 and in February this year, the number was 3077, which is respectively 54 and 63 percent more than in 2020.
