After the union tourism ministry’s directive of setting up of Tourist police in all state and union territories in places with high tourist footfalls, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra has said that the government is going to constitute 'Tourism Police'. It will be deployed at tourist places. They will take special care of the safety and convenience of the tourists.
He said that preference will be given in recruitment to such people, who have knowledge of many languages and dialects. Home Minister Narottam Mishra said this after he attended a contemplation camp on internal security on Thursday and Friday in New Delhi. It was addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dr. Mishra said that in the direction of realizing the vision of PM Modi, now the Madhya Pradesh government will form a tourism police.
At the same time, the Prime Minister has also called for 'one country-one uniform'. We are working in this direction also. A meeting of police and home guard officials has been called on Monday to brainstorm on this.
He further said that in the meeting, a strategy would be decided for construction of flats for policemen in multi-storey buildings at major places and metros. This building will be built where there is land in the name of the police station.
The recent attack on a foreign tourist by miscreants in Bhopal has made the government to devise a strategy on the security of tourists visiting the state. Also after the Covid-19 pandemic, the inflow of tourists also gone down drastically. The state government wants to spruce up the security of tourists visiting major tourist attraction in the state.
In 2019, about 11 million tourists came to India, which came down to a mere 1. 5 million in 2021 due to the pandemic playing a major role. Also many are pestered, harassed and cheated during their travels and don’t know whom to approach immediately for remedy.
A tourist police, located in all important tourist spots, can make them feel safer and better. When a happy tourist returns home, he or she serves as the most reliable publicist for the state and the country.
