With the rise in mercury, the UT wildlife department has taken several measures to protect the exotic birds housed in the Bird Park from the scorching sun.
Debendra Dalai, Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, UT Chandigarh on Thursday said the department has also proposed to install foggers to beat the heat in the months of May and June.
Dalai said, “To protect the exotic birds housed in the Bird Park, various measures have been taken by the department to protect the birds from the scorching sun. The officials concerned have created shades with thatched roof to provide shade area to the birds where birds can take shelter during day time.”
He said, “We have also provided shade net on the top of the aviary to bring down the temperature inside the enclosure. In addition to this, sprinkling of water is being done to keep the aviary area cool.”
Dalai said that Chandigarh Bird Park has been established behind Sukhna Lake to create awareness regarding conservation of birds and the same has been opened for the public in November, 2021. Due to soaring temperature during day time and day length during summer, the closing time (last entry) of Chandigarh Bird Park was extended from 4.00 PM to 5.30 PM from April 1 he added.
