In a major relief for a murder victim’s family, the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Saturday ordered the State SC and ST Welfare Department Secretary to provide a monthly pension of Rs 3,000, bear the education expenses of his children and three months’ ration.
The SHRC directed the Secretary to do this within four months.
In 2014, Narahari Sethi of Akhadasala village under Mahakalpada block in Kendrapada district was brutally killed in his village. Sethi’s family was attacked four times between 2011 and 2014 by antisocial elements.
It has been learnt that Sethi, who belonged to the SC community, was well-off which was resented by upper caste villagers. For this, he incurred their wrath and was targeted repeatedly.
Seeing the plight of family, Dalit organisation Ambedkar Lohiya Vichar Mnach took up the case and represented him before the SHRC in 2019.
