People will run MCD as RWAs will be like mini-councillors: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in the national Capital will get political and financial powers and they will run like mini-councillors of the ward if the AAP comes to power in the civic body.

Naming it the ‘Janata Chalayegi MCD (Public will run MCD)’ campaign, Kejriwal appealed to the public to vote for the AAP and get their tasks done "swiftly" through RWAs.Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Kejriwal said the idea behind this vision is to "make people the owners of Delhi (janata ko Dilli ka malik banana hai)."

"Today, we want to say that if the AAP comes to power in the MCD after the municipal poll, we are going to really empower RWAs. We will give them political and financial powers," said Kejriwal, who is also the AAP's national convener.“All of you must appeal for votes for the AAP by going door to door and sending Whatsapp messages,” he said.“If any other party's councillor comes to power, he will not allow RWAs to work. You have to ensure that the AAP gets all 250 seats,” Kejriwal said. "RWAs will be given funds to run their offices.

RWAs will be empowered. The real purpose behind this is to allow the people of Delhi to take their own decisions. I appeal to all RWAs to support AAP. We will frame a transparent framework. We will rely on online platforms also, so that MLAs, councillors and RWAs all know where the problem is and there is accountability. The public’s work will be done swiftly," Kejriwal added.

In a tweet, Kejriwal said, "Public will now run the Government in MCD. We will empower every RWA of Delhi by giving the status of 'Mini Councillor'. Our objective is to decentralise power and give it in the hands of the public. Every citizen of Delhi will be the Chief Minister of the national Capital.” Kejriwal also tweeted, "I challenge BJP national president JP Nadda to tell what work they have done in the MCD in the past 15 years. Tell me at least one work you have taken up in 5 years, apart from abusing me.

“ If the BJP had done any good work in the last 15 years, there would have been no need to bring 17 Union Ministers, Chief Ministers and MPs on the ground to seek votes for the MCD polls.

See, I am campaigning alone,” he said Earlier, Kejriwal interacted with local residents during a door-to-door campaign in the Chirag Delhi area to seek support for the AAP in the MCD polls.

Taking a dig at the BJP, Kejriwal said if the BJP had "worked" during its rule in the city's civic body, then it wouldn't have required so many CMs and Union Ministers to campaign for them for the MCD election. "There's garbage everywhere in the city. I'll clean the city if voted to power. The BJP abuses me day and night. We have made arrangements for water, we will take responsibility for garbage disposal too. Give one chance to AAP, and we will clean the city like never before," Kejriwal said. "We will make Delhi shine," the AAP supremo told residents.

He also referred to the BJP as a “film production company” over the recently leaked videos of AAP Minister Satyendar Jain in prison. “The BJP has become a film production company. The only difference is, normal movies are released on Friday. These people release a movie every day… They release a picture at 9 AM daily and it runs till 12),” he added.
