Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan apprised himself of ongoing activities under Jal Jeevan Mission in a review meeting at his residence. He was informed that more than fifty lakh connections have been given. At present the exact number is fifty lakh one thousand 772.
In the span of 2 years, the mission progress has registered a stupendous rise from 17 lakh and 50 thousand to more than 50 lakh tap connection. CM Chouhan expressed his happiness over this accomplishment and extended felicitations to Jal Jeevan Mission and PHE department. In past 2 years, in accordance with PM’s resolution continuous work is in progress under Jal Jeevan Mission. In this mission, the state is leading in the country.
While appreciating the work done under Jal Jeevan Mission, CM Chouhan said that Madhya Pradesh is enthusiastically working towards fulfilling Prime Minister’s resolution.
The state will keep doing so in the future as well. CM Chouhan said we will continue our efforts in order to ensure continuous efforts to provide potable water to the households. Mission will also target far-flung areas where people have to walk miles to get potable water. Additional Chief Secretary Public Health Engineering Malay Shrivastav and Principal Secretary Urban Development and Housing Manish Singh offered sweets to CM Chouhan.
It was notified in the meeting that the activities under the mission have picked up pace since April 2020. CM Chouhan had expressed his concerns for potable water arrangements in the first meeting as soon as he took charge. During the said time, it was a challenge to reach the goal of providing FHTC (Functional household Tap Connection) to one crore 22 lakhs 27 thousand families. The facility was provided to only 17 lakh 72 thousand families (14.49%). At present 50 lakh families are enjoying the facility and 40 per cent of the total target is complete. In the past couple of years, more than 32 lakh tap connections have been provided. Efforts are being made to ensure 100 percent availability of tap connection by 2023, a year ahead of original target year.
It was told that 834 water deprived areas will enjoy the benefits of 116 cluster water supply schemes. At present 25 schemes are operational and a total of 33 schemes are in progress. Approximately three-fourth of the activities under Cluster water supply schemes has been completed.
Chief Minister Chouhan gave directives to Larsen and Toubro to increase the pace of work under these schemes. While virtually exchanging dialogues with the company’s officer Subhrimanyam, he said that the progress in the areas under the company is not up to his expectations. By implementing the water supply schemes within the timeframe, the common man will not bear the brunt of water crisis. It is the matter of great importance for the state government.
He urged him to complete the work at the earliest. According to the company, there will not be any delay in implementing work under water supply schemes. The company will ensure completion of work by increasing the personnel and other necessary methods. The company also assured of disciplinary action against people responsible for delays in the work. Principal Secretary and Secretary to the Chief Minister Manish Rastogi and L Salvendran were present as well.
