There is no relief from the heatwave in the national Capital. The ongoing heatwave intensified over Delhi on Friday, with the mercury settling near 45-46 degrees Celsius in many parts of the city.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Delhi recorded the second-hottest April in 72 years with an average monthly maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius The all-time high temperature for the month is 45.6 degrees Celsius, which was recorded on April 29, 1941.
The IMD said that the Safdarjung observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius for the second day and the mercury surged to 46.4 degrees Celsius at the Sports Complex while at the ridge it was 45.7 degrees Celsius, at Mungeshpur it was 45.9 degrees Celsius, Najafgarh 45.9 degrees Celsius and at Pitampura it was 45.9 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature five to seven notches above normal.
