Disabled man appeals for euthanasia

Wednesday, 31 August 2022 | PNS | BALESWAR

A wheelchair-bound 26-year-old man of Remuna has urged the  President of India and the Chief Minister of Odisha  through tweets for granting him  permission for euthanasia as neither he could bear the pain of his disability anymore nor afford treatment as he has hardly any means to fight against poverty.

According to Bijay Kumar Jena, he became 80 per cent disable after meeting with a road accident four years ago. His father is suffering from paralysis while mother is visually-impaired and younger brother is jobless. Under the circumstances, they are meeting both the ends and treatments expenses with the help of distress pensions of three members. Unable to bear the pain and plight of his disability and financial burden, he appealed for more Government help, which if not materialised, he may be granted permission for euthanasia, his tweets mentioned.
