Covid-19 cases rise in C’garh

Sunday, 26 June 2022 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

For the last one week, Covid-19 cases have been increasing in Chhattisgarh. So, it is better to be alert than worry, an expert said on Thursday.

There is no need to panic but there is a need to continue to adopt all preventive measures            including mandatory  wearing of masks, said Dr Subhash Mishra, Director (Epidemic Control).

He said the state was slowly registering a rise in Covid-19 positive cases. All the necessary preparations for beds in hospitals with oxygen facilities have been readied.

He said that genome sequencing of the Covid-19 virus began at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Raipur a week ago. Now, the sample of 5 percent of the total positive patients are being sent for genome sequencing to identify the new strains, if any.

Earlier, the samples were being sent to Bhubaneshwar, which was delaying the results. Now, the results will be available quickly, he added.

He asked people include masks and sanitizers in daily routine, and to avoid going to crowded places without a mask.

According to the Health and Family Welfare Department on Thursday, the positivity rate was 1.16 percent after tests on 9,864 persons. A total of 114 Covid-19 positive patients were identified.

The total active patients in the state is 632. Raipur  district registered the highest number of 26, followed by 21 in Balodabazar. No serious case has been reported.
