On Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel urging people to consume ‘Borre Baasi’, a traditional delicacy of locals, to mark Labour Day, the Chhattisgarh Hotel and Restaurant Association on Friday announced it will serve it on May 1.

The Culture Department had also announced the launch of ‘Bore Baasi Thali’ on May 1 at ‘Garghkavela’ in the premises of Mahant Ghasidas Museum here, an official communication said.

‘Borre Baasi’ is prepared after soaking leftover cooked rice overnight in water. It is consumed with bhaji (cooked leafy vegetables), tomato chutney, tomato-chilli chutney, onion and ‘bari-bijori’ or mango-lemon pickle. .

The cuisine is considered to be good for health, especially during summer. It is rich in vitamin B-12, iron, potassium and calcium and works to control blood and hypertension. It helps in digestion and the body temperature remains normal despite the heat.

Baghel had appealed to MPs, MLAs, public representatives and the younger generation to express their love and pride in the traditional food and culture.

They have been asked to share their photograph consuming ‘Bore Baasi’ on social media.
