Brahmapur apartment residents rue apathy

Sunday, 26 June 2022 | KRUSHNA CHANDRA PANDA | BRAHMAPUR

The General Body meeting of Nataraj Niwas Apartment Owners’ Association (NNAOA)  was held in the apartment premises here on Sunday morning.  The members of the association unanimously expressed their deep anguish over inordinate delay in concretising 20 feet approach road from Dura-Pathara junction main road up to the apartment gate, causing serious inconveniences to the residents.

Mention may be made that, there are nearly 100 family members staying in the apartment and since last about 10 years, the residents have represented to the district administration and the local BDO (Kanisi Block) several times  through the local elected representatives and the media for relief, but in vain. Notably, the apartment comes under the territorial jurisdiction of Dura GP (Gopalpur Assembly constituency), located on the outskirts of the city and  hardly 1km from the town.

“It is unfortunate that after 75 years of our independence; the residents have to repeatedly remind the local administration and the elected representatives including the local Panchayat of concretising the approach road which is hardly 200 feet length for which the Government is duty bound,” said an office bearer of the association, who did not wish to be identified.

Surprisingly, neither the district administration nor the local BDO has ever visited the road site and discussed the matter with the inmates of the apartment/local residents in order to understand and address the problems of the residents.

More particularly, during rainy season it becomes difficult for the senior citizens and the school-going children for a safe walk in the road as the road becomes muddy with potholes.

According to information available, several times the local Panchayat/Block received huge funds for construction/ concretising and renovation of different roads under the Dura GP which reportedly remain unutilised. The local residents, therefore, have demanded that the small approach road of hardly 300 meters be renovated.
