Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta on Sunday flagged off a bike rally against liquor policy introduced by the Delhi Government.
Hundreds of youth participated in the bike rally and raised slogans against liquor policy. The bike rally reached Patel Nagar via Prasad Nagar, Anand Parvat, Thansingh Nagar from Faridnagar to Patel Nagar. In rally, youths protested with hoardings named “Quit studies, drink alcohol” and “Mohalla theka near your house, your son Kejriwal”.
Gupta appealed to workers that Kejriwal is engaged in making Delhi a liquor city, but BJP will never allow this. "The BJP has started work of sealing illegal liquor contracts with help of corporation and it will continue till illegal liquor contracts are stopped in Delhi," he said."Liquor shops have been opened everywhere, including near schools and temples as well as residential colonies. We will get all these illegally opened shops sealed," Gupta asserted.
Under new excise policy of Delhi government implemented in November last year, over 580 liquor shops have been opened by private firms. The Excise department has allotted 849 licences for retail liquor sale to private parties through the tender process.
The Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled municipal corporations have sealed several liquor shops for alleged violations of Delhi Master Plan provisions. The Excise department recently allowed licensees for shifting their shops if they fell in non-confirming areas in a ward to authorised commercial areas within a given zone. The licences were issued by dividing city into 32 zones.
