The State BJP has intensified its attack on JMM/Congress alliance government in State alleging that State Government is not acting proactively in Ankita Singh murder case due to its Muslim appeasement policy. State BJP president, Deepak Prakash addressing a press conference at the party office demanded a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the death of Ankita Singh and suspected link of Islamic organisation like the Popular Front of India (PFI) behind the incident.
Ankita was burnt alive on August 23 after the accused Shahrukh Hussain allegedly poured petrol on her while she was asleep in her bedroom in Dumka. Shahrukh poured the inflammable fuel on her from the window of her room. She was taken to the hospital shortly after the incident and on August 28, she succumbed to her burn injuries at RIMS.
State BJP chief Deepak Prakash said that districts such as Dumka, Pakur of Santhal Pargana are under the influence of the PFI and thus the link of the accused in the case, Shahrukh Hussain, with the PFI cannot be ruled out.
The BJP leader alleged that the role of Dumka deputy police superintendent Mohammed Noor Mustafa is also doubtful as he reduced the age of the accused and increased the age of the victim so that the accused gets minimum punishment. Sources said that as per IPC there are different laws for juveniles and adults. If the victim is minor then the case is under POSCO Act, while if the victim is major then there are different legal provisions.
The BJP chief also said that the law and order situation in the state has been worsening during the 32-month-long tenure of the Soren government. Prakash also said that the girl would have survived if proper treatment had been given to her timely. He said as the father of the girl was a poor man he could afford shifting of the girl to RIMS after 12 hours of her injuries and at RIMS proper attention was not paid to the girl.
Meanwhile, in other development the Jharkhand High Court has taken suo moto cognizance in Ankita murder case. The Director General of Police and the Home Secretary has been summoned by the Jharkhand High Court. The bench of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan has asked for a status report on the case. The court also directed the police to provide protection for the family. The court will continue to monitor the investigation.
