The UP Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Saturday arrested a member of the gang involved in international human trafficking.
Three members of the gang, including its leader Mohammed Noor aka Nurul Islam, were arrested by the ATS on July 27 last year on charges of international human trafficking.
The alleged human trafficker arrested by the ATS on Saturday was identified as Mohammed Rafiq aka Rafi-ul-Islam of Bahadurpura Kamila in Hyderabad.
The ATS sleuths said that Rafiq was born in a Rohingya camp in Bangladesh and his parents were natives of Myanmar where from they shifted to the Bangladesh Rohingya camp.
Rafiq was brought up by his uncle, Maqsood Ali, and he along with his uncle shifted to India by crossing the border and started staying in Nadia district of West Bengal. Rafiq later moved to Delhi and later to Mewat where he got a fake Aadhaar card made in his name and started working at a factory.
Rafiq later moved to Hyderabad where he started working in a meat factory and came in contact with Ismail who was a factory worker and knew Mohammed Noor, the prime accused and leader of the human trafficking gang.
Mohammed Noor had introduced Rafiq to Bappan and he later went to Tripura to meet Bappan on February 21. His job was to hand over those who infiltrated the border to Mohammed Noor. On being told by Bappan that the men who crossed the border had been caught by police, Rafiq went to meet a lawyer to seek judicial help.
Rafiq also helped Ismail, who is in Lucknow jail. He was to meet Ismail during court hearing and was to pay Rs 5,000 to the advocate as fee on February 25. However, Ismail was not brought to the court on February 25 and so Rafiq took shelter at Charbagh railway station to spend the night and meet Ismail in jail on Saturday.
But a team trailing him nabbed him on Saturday.
