At least three persons, including a woman, were killed after the auto-rickshaw by which they were travelling was hit by a truck near the Gandimunda area under the Jarpada police station in Angul district on Monday.
While the deceased couldn’t be identified immediately, they were said to be residents of Mahidharpur village. The auto-rickshaw was on its way to Durgapur with four passengers and the driver on board.
Near Gandimunda, the truck which was heading in the opposite direction rammed into the auto-rickshaw head on due to its driver’s negligence. While the truck overturned, the auto-rickshaw got badly mangled killing two passengers on the spot.
The driver was rushed to hospital along with another injured, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Police seized both the vehicles and launched an investigation into the incident.
