A villager was seriously injured in an IED blast that occurred in Marwa Karagani under Kurumgarh police station in Gumla district. The injured villager villager identified as Mahender Mahto (23) who got his one leg totally damaged in the booby trap of the Maoists.

Showing a humane face the Jharkhand Police sent a chopper to Gumla and airlifted the man, who fell prey to the booby trap of Maoists when he went to the jungles to graze his animals.

Additional Director General of police (Operations) Navin Kumar Singh said police sent a chopper from Ranchi and brought the man to Ranchi, who has been admitted in the Medica hospital. Singh said that Gumla SP had asked for this airlifting and that the headquarters did as fast as it could.

The ADG said that the IED blast which damaged one leg of a villager went off exactly at the same location where one CRPF jawan had a similar brush with the IED.

Singh said nothing can be any more cowardice of the Maoists than this kind of destroying the poor innocent in the landmines as Maoists must stop it without any more delay.

He said that Mahto was in the jungles to graze his pet animals never knowing that he would have this end with his leg. He said that Latehar and Chatra police have launched poster wars on the Maoists warning them to shun land mines.

Singh said it is time that common people must raise their voice against the dastardly use of the IED by the Maoists for their own safety.

The ADG ops said the Maoists are so scared of the police even in the jungles and rocks that they want a ring of the IEDs to keep themselves safe but the same are taking the toll of the limbs and lives of the poor. Sources said there has been loss of three lives of the civilians in the booby trap of the Maoists. Two of them are in the Chatra district while one in the Latehar district.
