In view of the vacancies of doctors in the sanctioned posts in the State, the Government is considering amending the Odisha Medical and Health Services (Method of Recruitment and Condition of Service) Rules 2020 so that doctors from outside the State can be recruited.
Health Minister Naba Kishore Das informed this in the State Assembly on Saturday while replying on a motion moved by Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik.
Das stated that because of the strict provisions in the service rule of doctors, eligible doctors from outside the State were deprived of getting job in Odisha.
With the increasing need of doctors due to the growing number of patients, the Government felt to amend the service rule, he said.
“At present, we are short of 2,330 doctors in the sanctioned posts of 8,719. Now, 6,389 cadre doctors are working; so, the remaining posts need to be filled up,” Das said.
As per the amendments, if a candidate has not passed higher secondary-level examination with Odia as a subject, he/she must qualify in this exam within four years of joining the job. Secondly, if a candidate from outside the State has not registered in the Odisha Medical Council, he/she would have to register before appointment.
The Government has urged the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) to start a process for recruitment of 2,452 doctors this year.
