After being challaned by the traffic police with a whopping Rs 16,000 fine, a man tried to immolate himself in Meerut on Wednesday. His parents were also present on the spot.
The local police foiled the attempt and once again acting tough, held him along with his parents and booked them for their unlawful act.
Reports said that the city traffic police in Meerut were on a drive to enforce traffic rules and address other traffic-related violations on Tuesday. During the drive, a man, identified as Rohit, a resident of Lal Park in Ganganagar-Mawana Road, was challaned for noise pollution caused by his Bullet motorcycle.
The traffic police inspector fined the man when he was going to buy medicines for his mother. He was stopped near Saket crossing where cops slapped a fine for noise pollution caused by his vehicle. This led to the man creating a ruckus on the spot.
On Wednesday, the man along with his family reached SP (Traffic) JK Srivastava's office to complain about the issue but to no avail. Rohit told the SP that Traffic Inspector Anil Kumar Mishra had also threatened him with an 'encounter'.
Getting no relief at the SP (Traffic) office, Rohit along with his parents reached the Commissioner crossing. Rohit then poured kerosene on his body. The policemen at the spot immediately intervened and snatched the bottle from him and took all three of them into custody.
Later, the cops once again challaned all three -- Rohit and his parents -- for creating a ruckus.
"We have launched a drive against noise pollution. We have arrested all three of them for attempting self-immolation. A case is being registered against them and further action is underway," said SP (City) Vineet Bhatnagar.
