The enforcement team of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Dehradun has issued over 800 challans for the violation of various traffic rules across the district in the last eight days during its intensive checking campaign. The RTO had commenced this campaign from June 22 under the supervision of the regional transport officer (enforcement), Sandeep Saini due to increasing numbers of road accidents in the district.
In the last eight days, the enforcement teams of the transport office have issued about 830 challans across the district for the violation of traffic rules.
According to the officials, the teams penalised over 200 people for riding without helmets and about 60 pillion riders for not wearing helmets. Besides this, more than 130 drivers were penalised due to pending taxes and about 300 vehicle owners were fined for not using high-security registration plates (HSRPs). Besides this, the enforcement teams also penalised and took action against the traffic violations like using mobile phones while driving, overloading of goods and passengers, violation of permit rules and over speeding among others across the district.
As per the officials, the main reason for this campaign is to focus on road safety violation besides spreading awareness among locals regarding traffic rules as over 55 people have already died across the district in road accidents this year. Saini informed that besides spreading awareness in their respective areas, the enforcement teams have been asked to identify the causes of road accidents in accident prone locations in their respective areas and subsequently provide their inputs to minimise the risk of accidents there.
