In spite of much progress in medical science that helps us treat many diseases that were incurable some years ago, still there are people who believe in traditional healing knowledge or superstitious belief.
The traditional belief system in healthcare may not be any branch of science or approved by anyone; but people are yet to shun faith in the age-old practice. Even they dare take risk even at the cost their lives.
As per information, a poisonous cobra was seen in the garden of one Sushahis Padhee, a resident of Rasanpur village in Ward No. 40 of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation. People knowing the trick of catching snake, popularly called as ‘Nag Bacha’ came to know about it and one Ramesh Biswal came and caught it successfully.
Knowing this, a villager, Ramesh Jagat came rushing and requested snake catcher Biswal to insert the tail of the snake into his ears so that he will not suffer from any disease in his ears in future.
It is believed that if the tail of a cobra is inserted into ear of a human being, then any man suffering from chronic suppuration of ear (Kana Pacha) could be cured of completely. Further, a man not suffering from such disease can also do so to get immunity for future, so goes the belief.
And as Biswal obliged the matter created much curiosity among the public here.
When contacted, ENT specialist of Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital, Dr Bharat Chandra Dash, said, “This is totally baseless. It is very easy to treat pus accumulation now-a-days. Hence, people should never believe in such unscientific treatment."
An Assistant Professor of Nrushinganath Ayurvedic College, Paikmal, in Bargarh district also gave similar opinion. “It is highly risky and a even little carelessness may create danger,” he added. He also requested people to refrain from such practice.
It may cause hearing impairment instead of curing the disease, he opined.
