Punjab sees 127 deaths, 2,627 new Covid cases

After a gap of nearly 50 days, Punjab on Sunday reported less than 3000 cases of the novel Coronavirus in a day registering a massive dip in its positivity rate. With 2,627 fresh cases at 3.92 percent positivity rate and 127 deaths, the state’s infection tally has reached 5,65,415 and COVID-19 death toll jumped to 14,432.

The state reported less than 3000 cases on April 13 with 2,980 new infections in a day.

The state’s active cases have also reported a decline with the tally currently stood at 39,263 — accounting for 6.94 percent of the total positive cases. Among these, total 4740 patients are on oxygen support, 861 patients are at critical care level-III facilities, and 310 patients are critical and on ventilator support.

Nineteen of the Sunday’s deaths were reported from Amritsar, followed by 13 from Bathinda, 12 from Ludhiana, 10 from Gurdaspur, among others. Among districts, Ludhiana reported a maximum 298 fresh cases, while Bathinda, with the second highest number of cases, reported the highest positivity rate of 9.50 percent.

Besides, total 11 new cases of black fungus were reported from the state along with four deaths, pushing the total number of cases to 260 and 37 related deaths.

Hry reports 89 deaths, 1452 COVID cases

89 more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Haryana as 1452 fresh cases surfaced on Sunday.

The death toll now stands at 8221 in the state with Hisar district recording a maximum of 860 COVID related fatalities followed by 804 in Gurugram till date. The fatality rate was recorded at 1.09 percent in the state.

As per the health bulletin, the total caseload was recorded at 755389. 3370 recoveries in the last 24 hours took the total number of recovered patients in the state to 726081.

In the last 24 hours, Hisar reported the highest of 10 deaths. Eight deaths each were reported in Gurugram and Panipat, seven each in Bhiwani and Fatehabad, six each in Rewari and Kaithal, five in Karnal, four each in Ambala and Panchkula among other fatalities.

Highest 140 fresh cases were reported in Hisar followed by 121 in Yamunanagar, 114 in Faridabad and 110 in Gurugram.

The state's active cases were recorded at 21087.

Till date, more than 90 lakh samples have been tested in Haryana, the bulletin stated.

HP reports 41 deaths, 861 fresh COVID cases

Himachal on Sunday reported 41 fatalities and 861 fresh COVID-19 cases pushing the death toll to 3111 and the cumulative case tally to 189465.

In the last 24 hours, a maximum of 16 deaths were reported in Kangra district.

2869 people also recovered from the virus and the total recoveries now stands at 171393 in the hill state, according to the health bulletin.

A maximum of 155 new cases were reported in Kangra, which remains the worst affected district in the state.

Till now, Kangra has reported a maximum of 925 fatalities due to COVID-19 followed by 554 fatalities in Shimla in the state.
