Power PSU extends help of Rs 22.5 cr for disaster victims

The Government of Uttarakhand received a financial assistance of Rs 22.5 Crore from the seven Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) of power sector on Tuesday for helping the disaster affected families of the State. A cheque of the aforementioned amount was handed to the disaster management and rehabilitation minister of Uttarakhand Dhan Singh Rawat by the union Power minister R K Singh in programme organised under the aegis of the Rural electrification corporation limited at New Delhi.

The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami virtually participated in the programme. In a statement Dhan Singh Rawat said that in the recent rain triggered disaster the state suffered huge loss of life and property. He said that  the state government reacted in time and started relief and rescue operations. Expressing his gratitude to the union minister for the help to the state, the minister said that Uttarakhand is very sensitive towards disaster and the chances of disaster become high during rainy season. He said that the state government has set up a robust system from district to Nyaya Panchayat level to deal with disaster under which one helicopter each in Garhwal and Kumaon division remains deployed. The government has also set up disaster control rooms, deployed Prahris at village level and distributed security kits in the villages.

The NTPC provided a help of Rs eight crore, REC Rs five crore, PFC Rs four crores, PGCIL Rs 3.5 Crores, NHPC Rs one Crore and THDC and SGVN Rs 50 lakh each in the kitty from their respective Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund.

The programme was attended by the officers of the union power ministry, REC and officers of different Power PSUs.
