The Mayurbhanj SP on Monday suspended the Sarat police station Office-in-Charge (OIC) after a pregnant woman walked around three kilometres to the police station after her husband was picked up by the cops for violating traffic rules.Following a probe based on allegations by victim’s husband, the Mayurbhanj SP suspended Sarat PS OIC Reena Baksal. According to reports, Bikram Biruli of Matkami Sahi of Nota gram panchayat  was on the way to hospital in Udala with his eight-month pregnant wife for a checkup on Sunday. On the way, they were intercepted by the Sarat PS OIC and his team who  were conducting a drive against traffic rule violations.

As the pillion rider was travelling without a helmet, the OIC during helmet checking took Bikram to the police station leaving his wife midway after he failed to pay the fine on the spot by cash. Though Bikram asked to her to issue a challan online she did not listen to his pleadings. He also asked her to take his wife along with him but in vain.

With no option left, the tribal pregnant woman trudged to the police station after her husband did not return for hours. The victim also alleged that the OIC abused him and put him a cell for hours though he had all the vehicle’s documents. Bikram rued that though the OIC was an woman, she didn’t have compassion for his pregnant wife.
