Amidst the controversy sparked with the arrest of Kalicharan Maharaj from Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra on Thursday said that the statement of the accused against Mahatma Gandhi and the manner in which the godman was arrested from Khajuraho, both are objectionable.
Notbaly, Kalicharan was nabbed from a Khajuraho early on Thursday morning, in the outskirts of Chhatarpur district. "What is wrong is wrong. The Chhattisgarh police officials should have informed Madhya Pradesh police, the concerned police station, even at 3 am, prior to executing he arrest. The action was carried out in a way that injured the federal spirit," he told media persons in Bhopal.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel took no time in replying to Mishra's allegations. Baghel in his statement on the matter informed that Kalicharan Maharaj will be presented before the court within 24 hours. He said, "Kalicharan Maharaj's family and lawyer have been informed about his arrest by Chhattisgarh police. He will be presented before the court within 24 hours." Reacting to Madhya Pradesh Home Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra's disapproval on Kalicharan Maharaj's arrest, the CM said, "Narottam Mishra should tell whether he is happy or sad about the arrest of the person who derogated Mahatma Gandhi? No rules have been violated and arrest made by Chhattisgarh police as per procedures."
